World Premiere Food Photography Workshop on CreativeLIVE

I’m just back from an assignment in Honduras, I have a few days to gather my thoughts, repack my bags and then head out the door again en route to Seattle for my CreativeLIVE Food Photography Workshop.

I’m pretty excited about what we have planned for you all. I have 2 very special guests for the workshop joining me over the weekend.

James Oseland, Editor-in-Chief of Saveur Magazine, (also a judge on Bravo’s Top Chef Masters) will join me for a conversation about the power and relevance of photography food and the culture around it.

I also asked the Director of Photography of Saveur Magazine, Larry Nighswander to join me for a photography critique of submitted photographs from viewers around the world. (I’m giving out an assignment later this week for people to submit photographs for that so stayed tuned)

  1. All signed up and ready to go. One question: where do I go to sign up for Session 4? :)

  2. I am so excited for this. I really don’t have a place to ask questions so this will be so helpful. I especially will be curious to see how those different “plates” will be photographed. It will interesting over here….as I have a gathering of 16 coming over on Sunday at 3:00pm. I am doing all of the cooking for it. I’ll get up early each morning and be ready to “start” the workshop by noon. Good luck turning around and getting to Seattle!

  3. Looking forward to all of it. I use images to convey messages to my supporters of feeding the homeless. How often do you see “bain marie” or quinoa and feeding the homeless in the same article? We do it all.

    Cheers,

    Doug Mac

  4. Can’t wait!! I already set everything aside to watch your workshop!!

  5. Look forward to the workshop and the assignment!

  6. Can’t wait to see you in action!

  7. Penny – I am so glad you are doing a CreativeLIVE Workshop on food photography. As a food shooter myself, your work has been an inspiration to me. I think I’m going to learn a lot ; )

  8. I am so unbelievably excited for this workshop, Penny! We are so lucky. Cannot wait.

  9. Signed up and prepared to watch and learn.

  10. I can not follow it live, then bought the package, good luck. Will look calmly and carefully.

  11. Loving the CreativeLIVE workshop… learning a ton! Keep it coming! =)

  12. I’m going to have to watch a recorded version, because I tuned it too late.

  13. I loved your sessions today; thank you so much for doing this free for us! :)

Hi Penny, I am pursuing Photography in my studies and I would just like to say that I absolutely LOVED your first session today, and I can’t wait for tomorrow’s session! You have truly inspired me!
One question: what iPhone apps do you use, like or recommend? I was curious about that…
Once again, thanks so much for having the opportunity to listen to you and learn from you!

Jeeze, Penny! First time I’ve ever started a creativeLive in tears. Awesomeness!

  16. penny: i loved watching you on creativeLIVE. what i would give to be there in Seattle in person! if you ever do this in L.A. – i will be first in line. thanks for the beautiful photography and your amazing generosity of spirit!

  17. looking forward to today’s class.

i watched the live for 3hrs, then some from the rewatch but passed out from all the cooking earlier in the day after midnight lol

  18. Penny, I know you won’t see this until your exhaustion induced coma ends somewhere around Wednesday or Thursday…… but I just wanted to reiterate how excellent and inspiring your workshop was. My daughter’s graduation from nursing school was this weekend and we had guests, but I still managed to catch a great deal of the webinar without ignoring our guests.

I have to say that it was sheer genius to include James and Larry. I think I have as many notes from Larry’s short session as I do from the rest of the weekend combined. I even stayed up to watch the rewatch to hear Larry’s section again into the wee hours of Saturday morning and had to stay up last night to listen again to your closing comments. My mantra for some time to come will be, “What if you are?”

Thank you again for putting so much of yourself out there during the weekend. At every one of these creativeLIVE events there are always questions about f/stops and what lens are you using there and I feel sad for those people because they miss the important stuff. I want to know what makes you do what you do, what elevates the image from snapshot to magazine cover and what passions drive the photographer to create a photo that speaks volumes.

  19. Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you would know of a food director of photography. We’re an animation studio that is shooting live food. We’re based in Portland, OR and are looking for people in Oregon, Seattle or San Francisco.

    Suzie
